rps20150614_192548A while ago, Doug and I made a decision. We would give out postcards freely to people we met on the street but when we were in restaurants, we would not hand out postcards until after we had paid the bill. We were getting quite a few meals for free and herein lies our problem. We felt guilty about it and what we have noticed here is that the people who probably have the least, give the most. It’s not as though they are going broke feeding us or we are taking food out of the mouths of their children. It’s just that…. we feel… guilty?
This is what else we have noticed. When we show some people the postcard, they get really excited about what we are doing. We get huge smiles, nods of approval and thumbs up. If it makes them happy to buy us lunch and become part of our story, should we let them? When we are in a restaurant and people approach us and initiate conversation, should we give them a card before we have paid our bill? What do you think? Please leave us a comment.
Today’s lunch came courtesy of these fine men and women.

It’s like being between a rock and a hard place. I like what you are doing. I look at it more from the perspective of karma/paying it forward. I’ve known you awhile and you have given freely, the universe is showing you the same kindness. And by accepting their kindness you will again pay it forward some day… It’s a wonderful never ending loop. Love you and I’m just wow-ed!

Most people feel the best about themselves when they are giving freely to others. Especially when they can be part of something bigger. I believe in the Law of Circulation, which says whatever is freely given, come back 10 fold. They do this because of their inner spirit. Receive in gratitude and pay it forward.

What a dilemma! My first thought is what is the customs there? Would they be highly insulted if you did not accept there gracious gift? Is it considered good luck if they help you? It may not be about the money but how it feels good to be kind to someone else.
I know…..let them buy you a meal and you can give them something in return, like a prewritten thank you note or a peice of candy.
