As of today at 4:00 we are officially 50.3% through our journey and we have walked a total of 576 miles. We now have 37 days left to walk another 570 miles. I just saw on the English language news channel that today marks the official last day of spring and the first day of summer and warmer weather. I hope it doesn’t get too much warmer-it was in the low 90s today and that was plenty hot.
Today is also the official day of the Dragon Boat Festival and one of their traditions is to make sticky rice wrapped in either bamboo leaves or banana leaves depending on what part of the country you are in. We were offered this treat twice today. Our sticky rice was served wrapped in a banana leaf.
Well, tomorrow is a new day and we need to average 15.4 miles per day to finish by July 27th.
Hi Micae:
50% there! OK 50.3%, I don’t want to short change you. Congratulations. Sounds like you guys are truly having an experience of a lifetime. Keep it up. Hello to Doug.
Thanks JC. That .3% is important to us. I will tell Doug you say hello.
Half-way is a major accomplishment! Congratulations! Heat is something I understand well, having live in Las Vegas since 1973. Stay hydrated…that is the most important key. Any kind of fluid, but water is always the best! And bugs…I’ll trade you bug for bug here in Minnesota! My friend lives on lake in central MN., out in the country & there are all kinds of bugs, but also animals (we had a bear the other night…actually never saw it, but the clean-up and repair the next day took up most of the day.), lots of birds & ducks with young in tow, turtles out of the lake laying eggs, chipmunks, squirrels, rabbits, deer (mostly road kill), raccoon, frogs in the pond, fish in the lake…the place is alive with wild life. But MN is only a kind of paradise for a short time…terrible winters. These people are a lot hardier than me.
Anyway, it would be interesting to know what kind of non-human life you have encountered. Humans are ok, but one probably wouldn’t like them too much if you got to know them. I like my humans at a distance, but my animals close! About how many postcards have you given out? I have been telling everyone about your website…don’t know how many check it out. But keep up the good walking & by the way, are the feet toughening up a bit? You did miss a bit of political insanity…Donald Trump & his squirrel hair piece entered the Republican candidate race for president. This has provide a lot of humor! There are about 12 of those clowns in the race now. They just can’t stay out of each others way…it is a lot of fun watching…better than a soap opera! But you will get back to all this craziness way too soon! Actually nothing new here but more killings, American hatred and politics…you aren’t missing anything. Be safe, enjoy the people & China & keep drinking water. It was 114 degrees in Vegas yesterday so enjoy your cool nineties!

We are hearing some news here on the Asia in English news channel (CCTV News). We heard about the shooting at the church. Just awful. I heard about Trump too. A Meme made its way to me… about if Trump is elected there will be “Hell Toupe”.
Wildlife-we saw a chained up raccoon, one live lizard and a bunch of roadkill’ mostly snakes, rats, cats, dogs, chickens, & goats. We we’re seeing lots of water buffalo but not any in the last week or so.
Bugs aren’t too bad.
We start out every morning with 1 liter of water in our backpacks and we stop every few miles a drink a cold half liter or two. The liter that we carry in our bags is emergency water.
We try to get up early and walk before it gets too hot. Rained, actually poured all day today. It can do that for the rest of the trip and it’d be fine with me. It was so much cooler.
Food here is good but I don’t have much of an appetite when I’m dragging my ass up and down hills in the heat. I’ve lost at least 20 lbs in the last 4 weeks and we have about 5 more weeks ahead of us. Good thing I anticipated this and let myself put on a few extra lbs. before this trip.
We have given out at least a couple hundred cards since we have been here. Problem is… we have met maybe 3 people here who speak English so they probably don’t look at the website. If we take a group picture, I will tell them to look at the site that night snd I will post the pic.
Im amazed you’re half way
Done!! You can do this Micae!
You two are inspiring all of us to go BIG!!
Yes! Go big and then we can go home! We are having a great time here but I miss my own bed and bathroom and of course the cats and chickens too!
Half way!!! Woo!!
Approaching 60% now!
